Surely everybody knows that Chrysler offered special versions of the 1968 Dart & Barracuda called "Super Stock Factory Race Cars," but how many of us can afford to copy those cars?

Well, I have created one, but instead of using the 426 HEMI, I used an early 392 Hemi. I call this a POOR MAN'S HEMI DART. My engine has about 505 horsepower, runs on regular gas or racing fuel, and uses some late model internals, such as a small-block electronic distributor, a 340 oil pump, a stock alternator, a late model transmission, an aluminum dual-quad manifold, stock exhaust manifolds, and 2 Carter AFBS carbs.

I used an offset master cylinder block to move the master cylinder to the left, just like the factory did on the original cars. I also found that the stock steering box has to be removed; I made custom mounts for the rack & pinion steering I used instead. The motor mounts were stock Hemi units. I increased the fuel line size to 1/2" for more fuel. If anyone is interested in this conversion and wants the engine to look as if came from the factory without the big hood scoops associated with the original Super Stock cars, please contact me by e-mail.
