Little Demon

Dodge will unveil a new, 108-inch-wheelbase model coupe called "Demon" as low price leader for 1971. It gives Dodge a powerful 1-2 punch in the compact field: the very successful Dart, and now -- Demon.

Engine Lineup

The standard six-cylinder engine in both the 1971 Dodge Dart and the all-new 1971 Dodge Demon will be a 198 cubic-inch Slant Six. A 225 cubic-inch Slant Six will be optional. The standard V-8 for both models will be the 318 cubic-inch engine, with the Demon 340 featuring a 340 cubic-inch V-8.

New Trunk Lines

An outstanding feature of the all-new 1971 Dodge Demon is a 15 cubic-foot trunk with a flat floor. This compares very favorably with some intermediate and medium priced cars -- not to mention smaller compact entries.

Citron Yella

Dodge's 1971 Dart and Demon entries will be more colorful than ever. The all-new Demon will be offered with a choice of 18 exterior colors, including five bright, sporty tones -- Butterscotch, Citron Yella, Hemi Orange, Green-go, and Plum Crazy. The Dart will be available in 13 standard colors. Vinyl tops will come in Gold, Green, Black or White on both models.

Passing Power

On both the 1971 Dodge Demon and Dart, a new part-throttle kick-down will be a standard feature with all automatic transmissions. The low-speed kickdown enables the driver to gain extra passing or acceleration power with a slight depression of the accelerator. The kickdown system automatically shifts the transmission into second gear to provide added passing power in the 10 to 40 mph range without the need to use full throttle.

Look Ma, No Key

1971 Dodge Dart and Demon owners will be able to lock their cars without a key. A "keyless" door locking system is standard and enables the driver or passengers to lock the car without an ignition key. Merely depress the lock button and close the door.

A New Record

Announcing the automotive industry's first Cassette tape player that lets you record, too. It's available on the 1971 Dodge Dart and the all-new Dodge Demon. Now, in addition to playing back your favorite recorded Cassettes, you can record your own voice. It's great for family outings, or rush-hour dictation.

Evaporation System

Installed as standard equipment on new Dodge Demons and Darts will be a gasoline evaporation control system, previously standard on 1970 California cars. This system prevents loss of fuel vapors from the carburetor and fuel tank to the atmosphere. The vapors are vented through lines to the crankcase by way of the crankcase air cleaner. The vapors are then either stored in the crankcase, if the engine is not running, or are purged from the crankcase through the crankcase ventilation system into the engine where they are burned.

An Inside Look

Dodge Dart models for 1971 feature luxury with an extensive list of color combinations available along with vinyl and cloth interior trims. New front head restraints are incorporated for 1971. New-style bucket seats with integral head restraints are optional.

Sweet Demons

Dodge Demon models for 1971 feature a high line of luxury trim, with myriad interior and exterior colors offered along with vinyl and cloth interior trims. An all-vinyl bench seat is standard. Molded plastisol-applied head restraints will be standard and add a high degree of attractiveness to the interiors. Vinyl bucket seats with integral headrest, and center console, are optional.

Demon 340

The all-new 1971 Dodge Demon 340 will be characterized by special side and rear end striping and decals. Available as optional equipment will be features such as high performance hood scoops, hood tie-down pins, rear spoiler and tachometer.
