Canadian Dodge Darts

Introduction

Contributed by Ian Smale

Did you know that here in Canada we did not officially get any Dodge Darts until 1967? (The exceptions were the 1960-61 models, which nobody even really referred to as Darts in Canada. They had Plymouth dashboards and interiors as well. Only the Polara had the US Dodge dash in Canada, and we also had no 60 Matador built here).

In 1963 and 1964, Canadian built Valiants were Dodge Darts from the cowl back, and Valiant front clips were bolted on. In 1965, we had two complete Valiant styles. One was exactly like a Dart, including the front clip, but bore Valiant insignia. This was the V200 series. We also had a US-style version, exactly like the US model, and this was the V100 series. In 1966, we reverted to one style only, again exactly like the Dodge Dart, but bearing Valiant nameplates all around. Plymouth nameplates were not to be seen anywhere on Canadian models, as all were sold at both Dodge and Plymouth dealers during that time. 1964-66 Barracudas were identical to the US versions, except the lettering on the deck lid read "Valiant" instead of "Plymouth."

There were also no Dodge Lancers built in Canada from 1961-62. We only had Valiants until 1967. Then everything seemed to become normal then. Valiants were Valiants and Darts were Darts.
